"Paithani : Threads of Tradition and Tales from Maharashtra's Looms"
Share
Rubbing my eyes from my deep slumber with the rattling rumbles of the loom shafts has been an everyday affair since my childhood. Reels of threads pulled across to be mounted on rollers, readying themselves to be transformed into a new creation in the hands of the master, were evidently what the threads must be whispering to themselves as I perched myself in the verandah, savoring the morning sunshine and yellow rays piercing their way through the greens of the surroundings where I was born and growing up. I wondered if that is the color that was the inspiration for this weave that will go into the loom.
I grew up in a small downtown, now a commercial district of Nashik in the state of Maharashtra, in Yeola, which has now become world-famous primarily because of the pilgrimage of the revered Saint of Shirdi, Saibaba, and secondly because of the weaves of the Marathas and the Peshwa Royals. Yeola is famous for its world-famous weaves, which we all know as Paithani.

The smell of nature, the bounties of the varied fruits cultivated in this area, the rich alluvial soils, and the temperate climate of this small downtown are something that has inspired me, rattled me, and churned my inner self to understand and hold true to its fullest essence: the richness of the regal weave of Paithani. Here was thus born the saga and journey of my dream endeavor, Paithaniwale. As we move forward, let me take you through the saga of what Paithaniwale is all about and share our story in a myriad of weaves and patterns that color your lives and brighten up your day.
Maharashtra is the legendary land of the Peshwas and the Royal Marathas. In specked with transcultural migration and invasion of the various Moslem invasion of kings and queens, the Qutub Shahi rulers played a prominent role in our heritage and cultural rooting. Interestingly, our rich heritage and cultural history are dotted with many tales of magic. In this land of folklore, we have many precious artifacts that have been unearthed to find a firm place in our history. I am truly privileged to be a part of this legacy where Paithani and its weaves in various formats and variations using silk and now other natural fibers are one such legacy that has flourished across the centuries and found its place in many important functions, occasions, gatherings, giftings, celebrations, and the list is endless. For every would-be bride, a drape across a beautiful Paithani is a dream come true and a must in the bridal trousseau.
